I am Mari Frühling, a freelance artist born in Viljandi, Estonia. I lived in Canada for 9 years, but since 2021 I have been based in Tartu. My art studio is at the cultural and creative center Aparaaditehas, and I am a member of the art collective Multinektar.
My work primarily consists of photorealistic oil paintings, based on reference photographs that I take myself. I am interested in working on the boundary between harmony and dissonance on canvas, subtly shifting reality and exploring new perspectives.
As a human and animal rights advocate, I aim to avoid art supplies that contain animal-derived components. I use professional vegan-labelled oil paints, synthetic brushes, and seek alternatives to materials that have historically been animal-based.
I have been exhibiting my work in galleries since 2022.
