2024 European Capital of Culture Tartu has focused on the topic - The arts of survival. One prerequisite for survival is the ability to share space with those we do not understand.
The paintings are a metaphor for the human intellectual culture, because our everyday use of language also shapes beliefs about other people and other species. By juxtaposing the woman and the chicken on the same canvas, I symbolically place myself in the same room with a creature about which I have been ignorant. The series of oil paintings is inspired by the desire to live in a more balanced society in which we can apply empathy to species that do not communicate in human language, but with whom we still have to share space.
This is also important for humans, because if injustice towards other species (the most vulnerable) were reduced, it would naturally also be reduced in relational dynamics within the human species.

These paintings are like spaces full of air and silence, allowing you to think about your relationship with yourself and others. Organized thoughts can create nothing but balance and harmony, a state to which all living things strive.
